We have gone to PBS Kids in the Park the past few years. It's a great event for kids who love PBS shows, which perfectly describes my kiddos.
It is very popular so we had to park far away from the park. Caroline was carried in the Ergo again, much to her chagrin.
On our way we passed a fire station that had its garage doors open. Someone said the firefighters were fine with us looking around as long as we didn't climb on the trucks and get into stuff.
We were all impressed to see a real live fire pole. Who knew they actually used those things?
One of the great things about PBS Kids in the Park is that they have all sorts of characters from their shows. We've met Curious George, Martha, Super Why, Miss Rosa, and Mr. Steve (among others). However, the one that has excited both Ryan and me more than the others was the person we met this year: Mr. McFeeley from Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood. He was such a genuinely nice man. Even though there was a long-ish line he took the time to ask questions and try to connect with each person. It was very sweet, and I have to say Ryan and I were both quite impressed with him. Jack was also excited because he wakes up WAY too early on Saturday mornings to watch Mr. Rogers--earlier than he wakes up during the week!
There was an animal area where the kids could pet a bearded dragon. All three were willing to touch it.
However, once we met the Madagascar hissing cockroach, Grant may have been the only taker (even though Jack's in the picture). Caroline, who has recently developed a HUGE FEAR of all bugs (yup, even teeny gnats!), stayed as far away from it as she could.
Caroline enjoyed watching someone from Sesame Street dancing on stage with Curious George while sitting on Ryan's shoulders.
On way back to the car from lunch we saw all of this smoke. It turned out there was a storage facility on fire. We could still see the smoke from our house when we got home, and I think it ended up burning for two days or something. It was strange to think that the same fire trucks we saw on our way into the park were probably now off fighting this huge fire.
