Caught! And other lake house adventures

Last week we visited my parents and their lake house for one last time before the beginning of school. Ryan went back on Monday so we had just a few days of rest before heading back. While at their lake house we had several fun things happen.

First of all, when we got there we saw several wasps in the bedroom. After killing the live ones and picking up the dead ones, Ryan and my mom went into the bathroom to dispose of them. What greeted them was a HUGE surprise--a frog in the toilet! My mom tried flushing it down, but its sticky pads kept it stuck onto the side of the bowl--even when Grant flushed for a second time. Then we saw another...and another! There were three frogs hanging out (literally) in the toilet bowl! Ryan used a net he'd bought for the boys to trap the frogs in a container and released them outside. All I can say is that I'm glad I was not the one who found those things in the toilet! Here are pictures of the trapping process:

We were also caught in the vision of all of the special stuffed animals that Jack and Grant brought. They balanced them up on the railing so they were all peering down at us. It was cute.

One of the days we were at the lake house it was rainy, and the boys were getting a bit antsy. It's hard to be a preschool/kindergarten (!) boy on rainy lake house days! Fortunately, my mom had bought a Toy Story puzzle. Even though there were 100 pieces, Jack put it together and only received a tiny bit of assistance. I could not believe it!

I caught Melanie reading to Grant and Caroline. She flew out the day before we left (well, technically it was the day we left since her flight didn't get in until 12:15 a.m.), and even though she was on L.A. time, she still woke up early to see us and hang out with my kids. They loved seeing Aunt Melanie!

Jack also caught his first fish! I'm a little sketchy on the details, and I think I may have heard something about my dad catching it, but that may not be accurate.

You may notice that Jack looks a little dubious, but by the time he came up to tell me about his catch, he was excited. These pictures just crack me up!

We also took some pictures of the kids with my parents, us, and Melanie. We caught some good shots--well, good shots of individuals, but capturing a shot of all three kids (and some grown-ups) is a bit tricky! So here is what we got!

So there you go--our last vacation of the summer. I guess we had our fair share of trips this summer. We do love to travel, but we definitely know there is no place like home!
